Mayra Andrade is world music singer/songwriter from Cuba who is best known for her interpretations of Latin folk songs, particularly those that are sung in the Portuguese language. Andrade's breakthrough debut album, Navega, was an immediate hit with critics, particularly in Germany, who celebrated it as one of the best Latin albums of 2006. Having earned a substantial amount of recognition since she won the Jeux de la Francophonie for songwriting in 2001 at the age of 16, Andrade has gone on to earn several other awards for her singing, including the Newcomer award at the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music in 2008.
