Hot Snakes is a post hardcore band based out of San Diego that was active between 1999 and 2005, before reunited in 2011. Led by primary vocalist and guitarist Rick Froberg and guitarist John Reis, both former members of Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu, the band began as a side project of Reis' who simultaneously started Swami Records. After Reis experimented with various musicians and contacted former band-mate Froger, Hot Snakes was born out of a blend of garage, hardcore and punk music. The band's first album Automatic Midnight, was released on the Swami label in 2000 and followed by a tour of the UK, during which the band extensively wrote and recorded. Despite the band's 2004 album, Audit in Progress being named "Best Punk Album" at the San Diego Music Awards, Hot Snakes announced its breakup in 2005 after another tour of the UK in support of its acclaimed album. After a six year hiatus, Hot Snakes reunited for the UK's All Tomorrow's Parties festival in December of 2011, followed by a series of shows in the UK and the US.
