My Chemical Romance is an American rock band from New Jersey that has managed to climb atop the modern rock ladder with its streamlined pop spin on punk and post-hardcore genres. The group formed in 2001, supposedly as a response to seeing the World Trade Center buildings collapse on September 11th. This emotional sensibility is prominent in My Chemical Romance's music, albeit channeled through a filter of watered-down screamo and driving rhythms. The band's debut album, 2002's I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love, introduced the sound of a hardcore-influenced band with significant emo and Goth tendencies. As My Chemical Romance has gained more and more prominent success however, more recent singles such as "Helena" and "The Ghost of You," have shown the group's sound to have taken on a much poppier, more commercial-friendly modern rock sound.
