Long Beach Dub Allstars was formed in 1996 by Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh - the former bassist and drummer respectively of the ska-punk band Sublime. The two roped in Opie Ortiz, RAS-1, Miguel, Jack Maness, Isaiah Owens, Todd Foreman, Tim Wu and DJ Marshall Goodman to form a ten-piece outfit. The band initially featured on a number of tribute albums before releasing its debut Right Back in 1999. Its second full-length record Wonders of the World, released in 2001, featured a collaboration with Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am on "Sunny Hours." The following year, it was brought to light that the band members had decided to go their separate ways following differences. LA Dub Allstars reunited in 2012 after a hiatus of ten years. It opened for the reggae band The Wailers in what was its first show in 11 years. Its first single since reuniting, "Holding Out/Steady Customer," was released in 2017.
