Students develop their technical skills and enrich their understanding and appreciation of the art form. Dancers attend from a large geographic area, both national and international. Under the direction of Paula K. Shiff, recipient of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts from Salem State University, the comprehensive curriculum includes various classes in ballet or modern, music theory, acting through dance, history, pointe or pre-pointe, composition or variations, nutrition, anatomy, injury prevention, improvisation, stretch and strength, Floor-Barre, music theory, and presentations.
A third week focuses on choreography, concluding with a public performance on Saturday, August 3. Students are invited to participate in several excursions to experience the artistic, cultural, and culinary treasures of Boston’s North Shore.
Sponsorship is provided in part by The Ruth N. Shiff Memorial Fund.
