The F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival and The Writers Center present: Literature Without Borders - A Tribute to Richard Russo

Featuring remarks by the legendary Richard Russo and a reflection on his career by acclaimed writer Jennifer Finney Boylan, plus readings by DC authors Patricia Park and Tope Folarin.

About the special guest readers:

Jennifer Finney Boylan, author of 15 books, is the inaugural Anna Quindlen Writer in Residence at Barnard College of Columbia University. Her column, Men & Women, appears on the op/ed page of The New York Times on alternate Wednesdays. From 1988 to 2014, she was on the faculty of Colby College; in 2000, she was named Professor of the Year at Colby. Her most recent book is the novel Long Black Veil(2017). Her other books include The Planets (1991), The Constellations: A Novel(1994), Getting In (1998), Shes Not There: A Life in Two Genders (2003), Im Looking Through You: Growing Up HauntedA Memoir (2008), Falcon Quinn and the Black Mirror (2010), Falcon Quinn and the Crimson Vapor (2011), Stuck in the Middle With You: A Memoir of Parenting in Three Genders (2013), Trans Bodies, Trans Selves: A Resource for the Transgender Community (2014), and You Are You (2015). Boylan will introduce Richard Russo for the Fitzgerald Award and conduct a workshop for the Fitzgerald Scholars on Saturday, October 20 at Richard Montgomery High School.

Tope Folarin won the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2013, and was shortlisted once again in 2016. He was also recently named to the Africa39 list of the most promising African writers under 40. He was educated at Morehouse College and the University of Oxford, where he earned two Masters degrees as a Rhodes Scholar. His debut novel,The Proximity of Distance, will be published by Simon & Schuster next summer.

Patricia Park is the author of the novel Re Jane, a contemporary reimagining of BrontësJane Eyre. A Fulbright scholar, her work has appeared in The New York Times,Guardian, Salon, and others. She is Assistant Professor in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at American University, and is at work on her second novel, which explores the Korean community in Argentina during the Dirty War.
