WEEK 2 of the festival is crossing the Bay Bridge to partner with BAMPFA for the first time. Bridges & Bones/East features twelve Latinx dance artists bringing culturally nuanced, site-specific or politically charged movement and sound installations to the architecture and community of the museum setting. Join them on a journey through various spaces and witness impactful performances with different programs each day. Q&A to follow each program.

Among the artists are:
Violeta Luna, joining FLACC for the 2nd time and sharing excerpts of her touring piece. Sanct·u·are / (sanc·tu·ar·y), responding to the current concept of “sanctuary city” –a sheltering place for immigrants, with a basic principle of socially engaged performance, that of being a safe space for the expression of the unsafe.

NAKA Dance Theater sharing excerpts from their year-long collaboration with Mujeres Unidas y Activas, a group who explores the burdens of experiencing domestic violence as migrant women, and creates work about survival and healing from trauma.

Liz Duran Boubion and Karla Quintero, members of FLACC’s production company, Piñata Dance Collective, are collaborating on a site-specific quintet with Aldair Rivera, Shareen Deryan, Rene Alvarez and Dominique Nigro building physical bridges through movement and experimenting with audience participation as borders are opened and new spaces are defined in the Atrium.

David Herrera Performance Company showing an adaptation of "Quiridxs Mios" about brown bodies challenging de-facto gender.
