The roots of The Stone Foxes can be traced back to high school, when Aaron Mort teamed up with brothers Spence and Shannon Koehler to form a blues-rock band. After a move to San Francisco for college, the trio added Avi Vinocur, a guitarist and bassist who helped bolster and solidify the band's sound. The group is heavily inspired by the crop of modern, electrified blues rock acts that popped up in the early 2000s, such as the White Stripes and the Black Keys. Brawny blues riffs are characteristic to The Stone Foxes' music, as is a strong melodic sensibility in the vein of 1970s artists such as The Band and Led Zeppelin. Now pared down to a trio again, The Stone Foxes continues to release studio albums whilst turning new fans onto its music via high-energy live performances.
