Il Trittico is a collection of three one-act operas by Giacomo Puccini meant to be performed in succession similarly to one three-act opera. The operas that comprise Puccini's Il Trittico series are Il Tabarro (The Cloak), Suor Angelica (Sister Angelica), a favorite of Puccini's about religious redemption, and Gianni Schicchi, a comic opera with a story that was adapted from Dante's Divine Comedy. Despite the almost universal acclaim given to the set's concluding opera, Gianni Schicchi, the first two operas were met with much less enthusiasm. As a result, the operas started to be performed separately by opera companies, with the third opera being performed most frequently. There have been some successful, albeit experimental revivals of Il Trittico, of which the set's 2007 performance by New York's Metropolitan Opera stands as the most celebrated.
