Los Angeles via Chicago four-piece Pelican is an instrumental post-metal band that incorporates elements of industrial and sludge into its music. Not wanting to be labeled and placed into one genre, the band purposefully decided to omit a vocalist, insisting that the front man would define the band. If the band boasted a beefy, tattooed man that screamed vocals, Pelican would be called a metal band; if the band included a pale twenty-something with black hair in his face, Pelican would be categorized as emo. The result is fast, heavy hitting, guitar riff-dense instrumental music that draws a varied audience.
