Though John Waters might best be known for his odd ball films, he's campy and quirky sense of humor has let the Baltimore-native venture into all sorts of professional avenues, including stand up comedy, journalism and art collection. Waters made his first short film, Hag in a Black Leather Jacket in 1964, although he would go on to say that it was only screened once at a Baltimore coffee shop. Waters has continued to create independent movies and they typically don't really have much success at making money even though they are generally praised by critics. While Waters has never achieved much mainstream appeal, over the decades he has established himself as a unique individuals who isn't afraid to venture into the weird and obscure to find laughs.
