New Jersey rapper Joe Budden has been something of an embattled New York rap figure, releasing both controversial and well-received material. Budden's major attention-grabbing work has come in the form of slights towards other rap figures, including members of the Wu-Tang Clan and up-and-coming rapper Saigon. A part from his notable beef with other local rappers, Budden has been a major label artist for much of his career, though has faced the many trials and tribulations of satisfying big business. Despite these issues, Budden has maintained a loyal following of listeners and supports, and has managed to stay relevant through mostly grassroots means. As of 2011, Budden had left his contract with Def Jam and signed to Eminem's Shady Records.
