Todd Snider is a singer/songwriter from Portland who combines country and folk music to create his Americana sound. While holding a residency at the Daily Planet Club in Memphis in the 1980s, he caught the attention of musician Keith Sykes, who invited him to open shows for Jimmy Buffet's Coral Reefer Band. He released his 1994 debut album Songs for the Daily Planet, and two subsequent albums with the MCA label before switching to Oh Boy Records and then landing with the major label New Door Records. His 2006 album The Devil You Know, was critically acclaimed and made several Top Albums lists for the year. Snider released an autobiographical double-disc live album, The Storyteller, in 2011 that chronicles his career and reveals narratives that affected his musical style.
