Dan Baird is an American songwriter who is often credited as being one of the founding artists of the cowpunk and alternative country genres. He was born in San Diego but his family soon moved to Atlanta, where he was raised primarily. In 1980, he formed The Georgia Satellites, a band that was built around his now trademarked style of blending rock and roll with country. After a successful decade-long stint, Baird left the group to pursue a solo career. His much-lauded songwriting talents are still healthily intact over 30 years into his career, and he has even branched out into other areas, such as record production.
