Dean J Grenier (known under his working moniker of DJG) is a San Francisco-based dubstep artist. Though he's been working as a DJ since around 1997, Grenier has really only recently began to make a name for himself, boosted largely by the dubstep boom in the US and the UK in the late 2000's. Characteristic of the genre, his tracks are full of dark, chilly soundscapes comprised of fat, rubbery bass tones, slow beats and intermittent vocal samples. In his recent work, however, Grenier has started experimenting with mellower, slow-building tracks that feature a prominent melodic sensibility not always found in dubstep. Although he's working in a crowded genre, Grenier's forward-thinking approach may allow him to standout amongst his contemporaries in the coming years.
