The quintet Venice is Sinking began in the mid-90s when founders Daniel Lawson and Kevin J. O’Neill Jr. began sending each other 4-track recordings back and forth in the mail. After they both relocated to Athens, Georgia and picked up a few other local musicians, Venice is Sinking was properly introduced to the world as a full band in 2004. As all the group members are well-versed in multiple instruments, the result is richly layered chamber pop with nods to Americana, folk and 90s slowcore. With a generally DIY recording aesthetic with minimal editing and production, the band sounds on record the way it does live, which has impressed critics and fans alike.
