Times New Viking is a lo-fi pop/noise rock band from Columbus, Ohio that is considered, alongside the band Psychedelic Horseshit, to be pioneering the highly distorted shoegaze-hybrid genre called "shitgaze." The newly-crafted genre is best known for its lo-fi aesthetic, heavy use of distorted instrumentals, shouted vocals and other "uncouth" sounds that, when combined, come across sounding like the genre's namesake--which, as evidenced by the band's popularity, is not necessarily a bad thing. With several critically acclaimed albums released since the band formed in 2005, Times New Viking has effectively proven that even scatologically-classified noise rock can gain a band a decisive amount of success.
