All-girl Japanese band The Suzan is a flashback to the 1960s Asian girl groups that mimicked their Western counterparts--in thick accents--to much success. At times cute, at time riotous and at times venturing into the territories of scat and psychedelic ramblings, the quartet varies its sound enough to rise above its 1960s predecessors. After catching the ear of Peter Bjorn and John, the indie staple invited The Suzan on tour and offered to produce its next album, which landed the band on the renowned Downtown record label.
