The Megaphonic Thrift

The side project of members of various Norwegian bands, including Casiokids and Stereo 21, The Megaphonic Thrift formed in Bergen in 2007. Filling its music with crescendos, the band builds densely layered peaks then descends to delicate instrumentals, only to build up again. The four-piece is also notable for creating walls of sound with a combination of monotone male and delicate female vocals soaring over the noise, providing a jarring but highly engrossing effect. Because the band sings in English, it has perhaps amassed a bigger following abroad than at home.
