Polyphase is a Panama-based band that creates alternative rock from a hybrid of youth-oriented genres. Formed in 2004, the four-piece began writing the aggressively played, but pop-minded songs that would comprise its debut album, Atrophy. Since then, Polyphase has carved out a nice niche for itself in a Panama scene that isn't known to produce a ton of bands in its particular ilk. The quick and propulsive angular guitars and driving beats, combined with attempts to write big, catchy choruses, gives the band a decidedly pop punk feel. However, lead singer Jason Matthew Berger throws his screaming voice all over the otherwise melody-conscious material, drawing some similarities to the in-your-face nature of screamo.
