Portland, Oregon group Monarques takes it back to the 1950s rock and roll and doo-wop era, combining the choral pop of this time with an updated indie rock aesthetic to accompany it. Also lurking beneath the group's sunny disposition is a certain punk philosophy. Sometimes imitation can be just that, though Monarques take a good thing and make it better. The group's self-titled debut EP came out in 2010.
