Kevin Johansen, born on June 21, 1964, in Fairbanks, Alaska, is a US-born Argentine musician and singer-songwriter. He is celebrated for blending diverse rhythms and languages, moving effortlessly between English and Spanish, and genres like cumbia and rock. Johansen’s early life saw him moving from Alaska to Argentina, where he spent his formative years. He launched his musical career in the 1980s with the band Instrucción Cívica before relocating to New York, where he performed at CBGB and formed The Nada. His breakthrough came with Sur o no Sur (2002), gaining international recognition. Johansen has since released numerous albums, including City Zen (2004), Mis Américas (2016), and Tú Ve (2022). He is also known for his long-time collaboration with cartoonist Liniers. Currently residing in Buenos Aires with his family, Johansen remains an experimental artist, blending musical genres and linguistic styles.
