English singer-songwriter and musician Charlie Cunningham creates indie folk music that perfectly showcases his skills as a trained Spanish guitarist. The Bedfordshire-native picked up the guitar in his teens and began playing music inspired by the likes of Sigur Rós and Mogwai. It was while waiting tables during college that he was drawn to Spanish guitar music. He bought himself a ticket to Seville and spent the next two years in Spain studying flamenco music and playing concerts. Upon his return to the UK, Cunningham set up shop in Oxford and started to book gigs in local haunts. Primarily a solo artist backed only by his guitar, he released his debut EP Outside Things in 2014. This was followed by several more EPs including Breather and Heights in 2015 and 2016 respectively. These EPs helped him establish his musical identity. His first full-length album, 2017's Lines, was released on the Swedish label Dumont Dumont to critical acclaim. It also won him the Pop Award for Album of the Year in 2018. His second album Permanent Way, released in 2019, featured songs like "Permanent Way," "Don't Go Far," "Headlights," and "Bite," to name a few. Over the years, Cunningham's work has taken him to countries all over Europe and North America, where he has performed to enthralled audiences.
