Simultaneously a nod to his home state of South Dakota and a dig at hip hop/country music doofus Kid Rock, Kid Dakota is the stage name of indie bandleader Darren Jackson. Originally dubbed Kid Dakota and the Tumbleweeds, Jackson's band plays grimly beautiful portraits of despair and loss that range from the starkly minimal to the lushly orchestrated. The band's bass player, Zak Sally, also plays with the pioneering slowcore band Low.
