Idiot Glee is the experimental pop project of Lexington, Kentucky-native James Friley whose dreamy, 1950s-inspired brand of music is described by the musician as "post-doo wop." With a sound that has drawn comparisons to the film soundtracks of famed auteur David Lynch, Idiot Glee successfully pushes the depressive lo-fi/noir agenda forward. However, despite the difficulty for more happy-go-lucky listeners to get into his music, critics and fans of Idiot Glee agree that the up-and-coming pop music experimentalist retains an edge and originality that more than makes up for the music's apparent absence of, for lack of a better word, glee.
