Emil Amos, who made his name with the bands Grails and Om, is the one-man band Holy Sons. Based in Portland, the Pacific Northwest songwriter/drummer was born and raised in the self-recorded lo-fi surge of the 1980s. Highly regarded as a prolific songwriter, Holy Sons writes narrative lyrics with a sense of wandering and dark mystery. His 2000 debut album, Lost Decade, was a condensed version of his extensive collection of home recordings that were previously unheard. From album to album, Holy Sons is known for his roller-coaster themes of the highs and lows of life, changing his sound and evolving his voice to match his genre and attitude mixing tendencies. He released Survivalist Tales in 2010, drawing inspirations from soulful 1970s ballads and a very gloomy, pessimistic outlook on the world.
