Imagine a surf rock band that has everything going for them. They're the house band of the local hang out spot and are considered to be some of the coolest dudes around when they jam together. Unexpectedly, the girlfriend of the lead singer breaks up with him and shatters his heart. As a result, the band's feel good tunes sour and turn into melancholy dittys about lost love and attempted reconciliation. Though this isn't the story of the New York based indie rock outfit The Drums, after hearing the group, one could imagine that it is. The band's lo fi surf rock sensibilities are coupled with self-despairing qualities of '80s New Wave and manage to warrant interesting, if not 100% original, results.
