Herencia de Timbiqui is an ensemble of 11 talented singers and musicians from the small town of Timbiqui, Colombia. The group likes to take its traditional style of African-inspired music and blend it with the urban styling of today - sometimes leading a vocal rap right into a marimba solo. Herencia de Timbiqui felt the desire to break out of its home country in order to start playing all over the world and has since performed at a number of festivals including the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival that occurs every year. One of the traditional instruments the members play is a folk bombo, a type of drum made from a hallowed tree trunk. The group puts so much energy into its live shows that it's nearly impossible to resist dancing.
