Dash Rip Rock

For a band most commonly regarded simply as country-punk, Dash Rip Rock manages to squeeze a lot of different influences into its songs. Rockabilly, 1980s roots music, Southern rock, blues and 1950s pop all factor into the band's sound, which is framed in a charmingly loose, party-friendly package similar to its contemporaries, Camper Van Beethoven. The Louisiana-based group formed in 1984 and has gained and lost members several times over the years, always falling back on the songwriting of frontman Bill Davis, whose sense of humor shines through in many of Dash Rip Rock's songs. The band scored a novelty radio hit in the 1990s with the doo-wop spoof, "Let's Go Smoke Some Pot."
