Danava is a four-piece hard rock band based out of Portland, Oregon. The group's roots date back to a 2003 teenage friendship between guitarist/vocalist Gregory Meleney and drummer Monte Mattsson. The two eventually added bassist Zachariah Dellorto Blackwell on bass and began to explore their mutual admiration for 80s thrash metal and 70s hard rock. The direction the band's sound eventually headed toward became densely heavy, and full of the dynamic time signature changes found in progressive rock. A self-titled debut album in 2006 showcased the band's knack for combining those aggressive and proggy elements with the meandering psychedelia found in stoner rock.
