Formerly known as Lights, Cliffie Swan is a Brooklyn-based band that makes rock-oriented pop music. The group, which is centered around songwriters Sophia Knapp and Linnea Vedder as well as a rotating cast of backing female musicians, uses sludgy synths and 80s-styled guitars intermixed with brighter vocal and melody textures. Its music demonstrates subtle influences of funk, soul and Swedish pop, making for an equally sugary and gritty song catalog. After forming in 2004, the group grabbed the attention of the Drag City record label and has released a steady stream of catchy releases ever since.
