Louisville, Kentucky songstress Cheyenne Marie Mize is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist performing in a new tradition of American folk musicians, who add nuance and elements from other genres to their songwriting and musical arrangements. While Mize had performed in her native state for years, it wasn't until 2009 when Mize released an EP of 19th century traditional songs recorded with indie folk figurehead Bonnie "Prince" Billy that she began receiving widespread attention and acclaim. The singer/songwriter's haunting take on the traditional torch ballad tinged with Southern instrumentation has won over fans across the country.
