Best known for his work in progressive metal bands, Locrian and Circle of Animals, Bruce Lamont occasionally breaks away from his other bands to perform solo work. The Chicago-based saxophonist/vocalist drifts from avant-garde metal to free improvisational jazz to drone rock, sometimes all in one song. Lamont released his debut solo LP in early 2011 and was lauded with acclaim for his dark, experimental pieces that melded multiple genres into something almost distinguishable as a breed of Americana. Like many experimental musicians, Lamont's live shows generally consist of free improvisation that only loosely resembles his recorded tracks.
