Boston-based singer/songwriter, Andy Pratt, has had a long, albeit erratic, career. Shortly after graduating with a B.A. in English literature from Harvard, Pratt released his debut LP, Records Are Like Life, in 1969. The album showcased Pratt's affinity for simple songwriting coupled with no-frills instrumentation and sparse rhythmic changes. Pratt toured the United States for a few years, but because he wasn't able to find a sizable fan base willing to buy his records and purchase tickets to his concerts, Pratt decided to abandon his hopes of becoming a professional musician in 1977. After moving to Europe, converting to Christianity, getting married and clearing his mind from the general hubbub of life in the US, Pratt rediscovered his affection for writing songs and decided to give the life of a musician another shot. Returning to Boston, Pratt started playing with some New England-based musicians, resulting in some agreeable soft rock tunes that perfectly encapsulate Pratt's later, more somber career period. He's now playing shows and performing to audiences as often as he can, and an opportunity to see this weathered, soft rock songster is not to be missed.
