Ahoora is a band from Tehran, Iran that was formed in 2001 and is considered one of the more controversial bands to have emerged from the Persian area in the past few decades. Though the band has grown into a modern alternative rock act that employs electronic beats and sweeping synthesizer arrangements into its sound, the group got its start by covering tunes from quintessential metal bands during its formative years. Ahoora played its first gig in 2005 and the show is considered one of Iran's first ever metal concerts. Not a band to be burdened by the music sanctions of its home country, Ahoora released its debut album, full of hard rock headbangers, in 2006 and the LP was deemed "forbidden" by the Iranian powers. Because the group often has a difficult time playing in its native region, it has branched out and started touring Europe and the United States, where the group has free-reign to play as loud as it wants and sing without having to worry about any sort of censorship laws.
