One of the "best" jazz pianists to emerge from the 1990s on the quintessential jazz label Blue Note is the New Yorker Bill Charlap. He began studying piano when he was only three years old and swiftly caught his family's passion for music. His father is none other than Moose Charlap the composer of the classic Broadway production of Peter Pan and his cousin is Dick Hyman the famous jazz pianist who at one time played with Benny Goodman . Years later Charlap got to take over from his cousin as the director of the Jazz in July program held every year in New York City since it was first created in 1874.
