A jazz label in Norway heard the singer Beate S. Lech perform around the University of Oslo in 1999 and was so smitten with her music they asked her to record an album for them. After a year of deep focus and collaboration with Marius Reksjo, a fellow student and musician from the University, the two delivered the record to the label. Although, because the album, Lose & Win, was a collaboration between the two songwriters and not just a solo effort Beate and Marius decided to call their band Beady Belle. Incorporating lengthy lyrics like "...persistently pouring bartender, tells me I'm uncalled for" from "The Storm" and a flare for bridging the gap between acid jazz beats and lounge music into the deeply soulful groove of songs like "Ghosts," Beady Belle has become the favorite band of recording artists India Arie and Jamie Cullum--both of whom have duetted with Beady Belle.
