Idealistic young musicians, eight of them, running amok on a stage while yelling in French equals Barrio Populo. The group's caffeine-charged music is electrifying and meant to be heard live, although records like MAXI 2 (2010) have done an alright job attempting to capture its raw energy. On record you'll just hear a two-piece horn section, but on-stage you'll see three young maniacs unable to stop moving for an entire set and thanks to wireless microphone technology don't have to be standing anywhere near each other. Take away all the antics and you still have a rocking band of incredible musicians who can dynamically shift between rock, reggae and Latin jazz in the span of one five-minute song without taking the listener out of mood.
