Monarchy is a synthpop duo based out of London that formed in 2009. Fond of both live and electronic instrumentation, Monarchy uses synthesizers, disco drum beats and funk-inspired bass lines to create a blend of pop, electro and a touch of cheesy 80s dance music. The duo seemed high on keeping its members' identities a secret in the beginning of its career, going so far as to wear masquerade style masks onstage and giving cryptic responses to interview questions. Soon after, however, the two were revealed to be the respective singer and producer Ra Black and Andrew Armstrong - collaborative partners, both from Australia. Monarchy released its self-titled debut album in 2010 along with remixes of high-profile artists such as Lady Gaga, Kelis and Jamiroquai.
