Bogota, Columbia-based band Bomba Estereo fuse together a dizzying array of musical styles into a sound that is unlike many others. Central to Bomba Estereo's music is the traditional Colombian folk sounds of cumbia, a slinking shuffle of a rhythm that the band sometimes speeds up. Other obvious influences are ska and reggae, punk and electro. Bomba Estereo tour all over the world and have come to represent a 21st century world music sound that challenges the popular notion that world music is:
1) an accurate descriptor, and
2) that it has to come from one particular region.
The band's third album Blow Up came out in 2009 and is considered a a respective jumping off point for the band's international success.
