Tamerlano is an opera composed by George Fredric Handel with a libretto in Italian based on an event in the life of Tamerlane, a 14th Century conquerer of Central Asia. Despite being composed in 20 days in 1724 (a rather short writing period for an opera), Tamerlano is considered to be one of Handel's major works. The opera is believed to have introduced the tenor's first major role in opera, as well as bringing Turkish culture into fashion throughout Europe.
