Chicago-born electronic producer/singer Curtis Jones (aka Green Velvet) offers a pretty telling mission statement in the lyrics to "Shake & Pop," his 2006 single. "I like electro...I like retro...I like ghetto house and techno," he says in a half sung, half spoken monotonic voice. Jones's music indeed does exist somewhere in and around these reference points, with heavy emphasis on house influence. Because of his tendencies to branch out into strange, psychedelic territory inspired by Krautrock, funk and new wave, Jones's brand of progressive house is known to not always adhere to genre limitations. In addition to writing, singing and producing his tracks, Jones also contributes synthesizer parts and drum machine programming.
