It's always refreshing when a supergroup comes together with the intent of creating music out of mutual respect rather than to simply stroke egos or retread tired ground (ahem, Audioslave and Velvet Revolver). Such is the case with Fistful of Mercy, a trio that combines the talents of folky alt-rocker Joseph Arthur, modern soul and blues star, Ben Harper, and Dhani Harrison - son of the late Beatle, George Harrison. The unassuming folk and classic rock-influenced music the three create together is less interested in spotlighting individual talents than it is in weaving voices and harmonies together into one tastefully blended whole. Sparse drumming and occasional slide parts are added to the mix of acoustic guitar-based songs that aim for a timeless quality rather than a desire to fit into modern trends. The band released its debut album, As I Call You Down, in 2010.
