When pianist Paul Frick, synthesizer player Jan Brauer and percussionist Daniel Brandt all join forces they create an electro-acoustic experimental trio with heavy jazz and classical leanings called Brandt Brauer Frick. The German outfit uses subtlety and minimalism to great effect, bringing seemingly disjointed parts together into a meticulously crafted whole. Classical influences are apparent, amplified by the use of piano, tuba, violin and harp, and some of the more controlled, slowly evolving forms of jazz offer a reference point in terms of song structure. In a live setting, the trio expands to a large ensemble, effectively replicating the juggling of electronic and acoustic instrumentation found on its albums.
