It's not uncommon to see a band full of twenty-somethings take the music of their parents' generation and spin it into something new. But in the case of South Carolina six-piece, The Explorers Club, a love for '60s pop vocal groups--most glaringly, the Beach Boys--seems to be the beginning, middle and end of the members' passions. Rich multi-part harmonies, tambourine shakes and jangly guitars are presented by means of vintage recording techniques and equipment, lending the songs an authentically retro feel and blurring the lines between old and new. If you've ever heard the Beach Boys, the Zombies or any number of sunny '60s pop groups, you basically already know everything there is to know about the Explorers Club. But like the old adage says, if you're gonna steal, steal from the best.
