Rooney and its label had initially debated whether or not to put what would become its first single "Blueside" on its self-titled debut album or not - they decided to release it, and it became the song of the summer in 2003. The Los Angeles four-piece formed in 1999 while still in high school, and decided to na ame itself after the school principal, Ed Rooney, from the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Rooney fittingly creates fun-loving, clean guitar sounds that conjure up images of weekdays spent in the halls of high school and weekends spent at the sunny beaches of Venice. Before signing to Interscope records in 2003, Rooney built up a strong fan base of teenage girls that have remained devoted to the band.
