Paying homage to the indie greats before them with every guitar riff and cymbal crash, band members of Cymbals Eat Guitars sound as though they belong to an era of straightforward indie rock that has since dissipated. Consistently compared to Modest Mouse, Built to Spill and Pavement, many have claimed the group is relying on influences and thus creating nothing new, but others have hailed the group as the second coming of classic indie rock, lauding them with hype and praise difficult to live up to. While the debate persists over whether or not this New York based quartet is living up to its reputation or not, Cymbals Eat Guitars continues to release hyped albums and sell out venues across the US.
