Regarded by many as one of the world's most talented living bass saxophone players, Colin Stetson has provided sax for multiple artists, including Arcade Fire, David Byrne, The National and Tom Waits, but is most notable for his avant-garde solo work. With a technique that involves highly-controlled breathing, "percussive valve-work" and "reed vocalizations," Stetson is able to produce a symphony of experimental sound that seems to stem from multiple instrumentalists, not one. Also a virtuoso on various other horns, Stetson's studio recordings consist of him playing all instruments live without looping or dubbing. With the addition of the occasional guest vocals by Laurie Anderson and Shara Worden, of My Brightest Diamond, Stetson's tracks are bold and haunting, showcasing a truly talented force.
