Initially conceived in pre-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, Callers was a trio that recorded a few songs in a bedroom apartment with one microphone and a 4-track. Though the band members were forced to relocate after the natural disaster and led separate lives for a few years, in 2008 Callers finally came together in Brooklyn and released a debut album. While the group still exists primarily under the mainstream radar, it steadily is building a following infatuated with front woman Sara Lucas' smoky powerhouse vocals and the band's ability to switch genres on a dime, including everything from 1950s-inspired doo-wop, to easy-listening jazz and post punk--all while remaining cohesive.
