Ever since the German electronic duo Monolake lurched on the European music scene in the late '90s, the group has been regarded as one of the more inventive acts of its generation. When the group formed there was no sustainable electronic controller that would enable the two musicians to manually control sounds spawned from their computers, so the duo decided to fashion their own piece of music equipment. This live controller, dubbed the Monodeck, gave the musicians something that nearly every other electronic composer craved and soon music software programs came banging on the doors of the two Germans. Now one of the members of Monolake works as an engineer for the prestigious music software company Abelton and even though it has been years since the electronic duo released its first album, the group still sounds like its innovating and writing the book on how electronic music should be created.
